Gardenculture Path
Gardenculture Path
The first gardenculture path at Lake Constance.
Three ways lead to the most beautiful green sights in Überlingen.
Überlingen. This is a unique project at Lake Constance: on 15th July 2005 is the opening of the gardenculture path of the town of Überlingen.
Überlingen managed to create an image for itself as “Nizza of Lake Constance” in the contest “Entente Florale” 2005, a common project of the town of Überlingen, the Deutsche Gartenbau Association, the AGENDA 21 group and the municipal department for green spaces, environment and forests.
The gardenculture path consists of a 4 km long main path, a 2.2 km long obstacle-free summer path and a 3.8 km long eastern route. Along these ways there are 21 of the most beautiful green sights of Überlingen. Splendid views of the lake and the historic old town centre alternate with green oases of peace and rest. The path was designed since the Stadtgarten celebrates its 130th anniversary and the Kneipp health spa Überlingen its 50th anniversary. The main path begins at the Badgarten and leads along the lakeside promenade past the medieval tower Badturm the Gondelhafen and then along the lakeside park to the thermal bath Bodenseetherme. Further sights along the route are the Scheffelhöhe high above the shore, the Gallerturm built in 1506 (from where it is worth taking a detour to the new herb gardens), the upper Stadtgarten, the thickly overgrown moat Blatterngraben, the garden of the museum and the Menzingerhausgärten which are a beautiful example for the rich tradition of garden plot holders in the middle of the old town centre.
The eastern route leads from the chapel St. Leonhard built in 1400 to the park of the Schloss Rauenstein and its apple teaching path to the nature park St. Leonhard-Deisendorf and the hotel park St. Leonhard with its splendid views of the lake.
Last but not least there is an obstacle-free summer path which offers green impressions and can also be enjoyed by people with mobility handicaps, wheelchair users and parents with prams. This circular walk touches the Badgarten, the moat Espachgraben and the quiet oasis of the garden St. Franziskus. These green areas are at the outer moat ring, the rose garden can be found nearby the route.
All three routes are described in a brochure of 30 pages and are marked in the town map. Interesting information about the sights encourage to take them in more closely. Information about the next bus stations and car parks is included.
“The gardenculture path contributes to relaxation, health and the quality of life of our citizens and visitors” say Mayor Volkmar Weber and Countess Sonja Bernadotte, President of the Deutscher Gartenbau Association 1822 e.V. in there common foreword. The brochure was printed with 10 000 copies and will be enhanced in the following years and describe further stopovers also in the surrounding area.
The brochure is obtainable at the Tourist Information, Landungsplatz 14, 88662 Überlingen, Tel. 07551/991122, Fax 991135, e-mail touristik@ueberlingen.de, www.ueberlingen.de and the town council and in various shops and public institutions.
